Having a mother who is a renowned author, Chanraksmey had not always wanted to follow her mother’s footsteps due to the pressure & expectations that would come along with it. Her mother had written over 100 novels of romance & folklore that play a huge role in the film industry of Cambodia. After her education, in 2013, Chanraksmey served the country by being a script-writer in the film industry. In 2018, she had achieved more than 10 featured films and later on, becoming a film director after getting trained at the Cambodian Film Department. Despite her success in film, she felt limited and was not able to freely express her thoughts and ideas since producers would always have the final say. This became one of the motivations for her to begin writing her first novel.
7 years later, Chanraskmey finally decided to take a step to write and publish her 1st novel called the “The Purple Diary” followed by her famous sequel “The Purple Diary 2” which became huge hits in Cambodia. Her first two books have become the best-selling among many bookstores in Cambodia especially among young women. Lately, she also launched her third book, “The Man In A White Suit” which became loved by both loyal and new readers. Up to this day, all three books are best-sellers in publishing companies & bookstores across Cambodia.
“We cannot hold a gun to save the world, but we can hold a pen to help our society…” the very words from her mother stay deep in Chanraksmey’s heart. These very words ignited the passion in Chanrsaksmey to start writing. By writing & sharing stories of love, hope, & freedom, Chanraksmey’s desire is that each novel help benefit the society & many generations to come.
